Installing Sitellite

This is mainly just a reminder for myself, but I thought it might help others.

Thirteen steps to installing the Sitellite Content Management system on a unix based server - in 2 minutes!

Step 1

Log into the server using Putty. Input your username and password when prompted.

Step 2

Navigate to the home directory using the command

cd home

[change directory - home]

Step 3

Use the command

ls

to list all sites on the server.

Step 4

Use the command

cd sitename

to change to the directory of the site you wish to install Sitellite on.

Step 5

Use the command

cd public_html

to change to the public directory of the site.

Step 6

Use the command

mysql -uroot -p

This tells the server we wish to log into mySql with the username 'root'

we are prompted for the password on the next line.

Step 7

Use the command

show databases;

- we need a colon here to execute the command.

Step 8

Copy and paste the wget which is

wget -q -O - http://www.sitellite.org/go-sitellite5 | sh

Step 9

Run command

ls -all

Step 10

Run command

chown -R user.group *

- replace user and group to whatever applies. This changes the permissions for the user to be able to modify all files.

Step 11

Run command

chown -R USER.GROUP .

replace user and group to whatever applies. This changes the permissions for the user to be able to modify all files which begin with a dot. i.e the .htaccess file.

Step 12

Run command

CHMOD -R 777 cache pix inc/data

Step 13

Restart Apache/MySQL. Navigate yourself to the domain you set up Sitellite on and follow the installation instructions!
